Tamil Nadu polls: CPM P Shanmugan promises to bring gig workers under legal ambit

CHENNAI: Communist Party of India state secretary (Marxist) P Shanmugam released the party’s manifesto on Monday, at the party headquarters in the city. The left party said the lakhs of gig workers have no legal protection, and that it will take steps to recognise them as workers and bring them under legal framework. Other promises included taking steps to provide resting places with toilets for women auto drivers and gig workers, fighting to eradicate “customary powers” granted to governors, and requesting separate lanes for walking and cycling. Communist Party of India (Marxist) urged Centre to release reports on Keeladi and Adichanallur excavations.
