VILLUPURAM: A special court handling cases booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, sentenced a 28-year-old man to undergo 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl at a village in Villupuram. Sessions judge (Pocso court) M Vinodha also sentenced the man to undergo 10 years of imprisonment for kidnapping the minor girl and to three years of rigorous imprisonment for illegally confining her. All terms will run concurrently. According to the public prosecutor Gandhimathi, the man kidnapped the minor girl and sexually assaulted her on August 14, 2019. The minor girl’s mother lodged a complaint. The special court, after a detailed trial, found the man guilty under various sections of the Pocso and IPC and convicted him.
