According to the reported recovery schedule, Doncic was only five weeks into what was expected to be an eight-week rehab process when he addressed reporters earlier in the series.“It’s very frustrating,” Doncic said in the beginning of the series 2. “I don’t think people understand how frustrating it is. All I wanna do is play basketball, especially this time. It’s the best time to play basketball. It’s very frustrating seeing what my team is doing. I’m very proud of them. It’s been very tough, to, just to sit and watch them play.”Doncic has remained active on the bench, reacting to runs and talking through possessions with teammates, but the Lakers still lack the one thing that usually steadies them in playoff basketball and that is control.Without him, Austin Reaves has become the main focus of Oklahoma City’s defense. The Thunder have crowded him physically, forcing difficult looks and shrinking driving lanes. Los Angeles has had stretches where it competed well early, even taking halftime leads in Games 2 and 3, but the second halves have turned brutal. Oklahoma City has outscored the Lakers by 54 points after halftime through three games, repeatedly wearing them down with pressure and depth.

Luke Kennard did not try to hide how much the Lakers miss their leading scorer after Game 3’s 131-108 defeat.“Look, yeah, when you have the league’s leading scorer out there – if he was – it definitely changes the dynamic of a team,” Kennard said. “Obviously, we miss him. And we know he’s working his butt off right now [to return to play] … but yeah, I mean, he would definitely change it for us.
