Jaipur: On the eve of International Nurses Day (May 12), nurses commemorated the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, founder of modern nursing, at SMS Hospital by paying a candlelight tribute to her.Rajasthan Nurses Association Jaipur district president Baldev Singh Chaudhary said nurses, faculty members and students from hospitals affiliated with SMS Medical College Jaipur, Rajasthan College of Nursing, School of Nursing, RUHS and Rajasthan Jaipuria Hospital paid floral tributes to Florence Nightingale through a candle-lighting ceremony.Convener Roshan Lal Yadav said the programme began with lamp lighting by SMS Hospital nursing superintendent Banne Singh Meena and state president Shyam Singh. Nursing superintendent Banne Singh Meena administered an oath to nurses, urging them to follow Florence Nightingale’s ideals and serve patients selflessly, treating care as “Nar Seva, Narayan Seva.”At Zenana Hospital, Chandpol, speakers highlighted the vital role of nurses in newborn care, saying they bring breath to life and smiles to many faces. OPD in-charge (nursing) Ramesh Saini said the day honours the sacrifice, dedication and contribution of nurses to society. He added that empowering nurses with proper skills, support and resources enables them to deliver timely, effective and life-saving care.
