Aizawl: Covid-19 infections have been rising in Mizoram, especially in Aizawl district, with 90 cases detected so far this year and two active cases under treatment as of Tuesday, officials of the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) under the state Health & Family Welfare department said on Tuesday.The officials, citing IDSP records, said a surge was witnessed in May, with 52 cases detected from 106 samples tested during the month. The highest single-day count was 18 infections on May 6, when 22 samples were tested.“No death due to Covid-19 has been recorded in the state since 2024 and those infected with the corona virus this year are having only mild symptoms,” the officials said.Since early 2020, Mizoram has tested 19,98,592 samples, with 2,39,771 people found infected, while 734 deaths have been recorded, according to officials.State health department officials said despite no Covid-19 related death being registered for over two years, the disease is yet to be contained and is here to stay. They appealed to people, especially the elderly and those with co-morbidities, to take preventive measures.
