Patna: RJD national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Friday launched a sharp attack on the NDA govt over inflation, unemployment, poverty and the weakening rupee, alleging that the Centre’s economic policies had pushed the country into distress and worsened Bihar’s condition. In a statement, Tejashwi recalled Narendra Modi’s remark before becoming Prime Minister that there was competition between the central govt and the rupee over who would fall further. He claimed the rupee had now become the weakest currency in Asia.Tejashwi alleged the rupee had continuously weakened during Modi’s tenure and claimed it had lost nearly half its value over the last 12 years.Targeting the Centre’s economic claims, he said the govt projected India as one of the world’s leading economies, but argued that the country’s per capita GDP in US dollar terms reflected a weaker reality. He alleged the NDA govt’s “visionless” economic policies had damaged the national economy and led to record inflation, unemployment and poverty.Tejashwi said Bihar, which he described as the country’s poorest and most backward state, was facing a severe financial crisis. He claimed prices of LPG cylinders, petrol, diesel, fertilisers, seeds, medicines and education had risen sharply, while ration items, edible oil, pulses and milk were moving beyond the reach of ordinary families.According to Tejashwi, poor and middle-class households were struggling to manage daily expenses due to rising costs across sectors. He also accused the “double-engine” NDA govt of failing to present any concrete roadmap to control inflation and unemployment.Reacting to Tejashwi’s charge, BJP state spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel said the entire world was facing the wrath of the conflict in West Asia which has led to the escalating oil and gas price. “India is still doing better compared to other countries and PM Narendra Modi has already given several advice to tackle the scenario which has affected worldwide,” Patel added.
