The move comes as troops stationed in the Middle East rotate out of the region, part of a broader effort to reduce the US military footprint there while concerns over Iranian retaliation remain high.President Trump, meanwhile, posted on social media that “circumstances pertaining to Government” would keep him from attending his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this weekend. He had planned to spend Memorial Day weekend at his New Jersey golf property but will now head back to the White House.The US and Iran have largely avoided direct strikes since a temporary ceasefire took effect in early April, creating room for indirect negotiations on a more permanent agreement.Memorial Day, observed on the last Monday of May, honours American service members who have died while serving in the armed forces.
