Kanpur:The body of a teenage girl was found hanging from a noose under suspicious circumstances in Bichhiya village in the Purwa Kotwali area of Unnao. Police took possession of the body, sent it for post-mortem examination, and launched an investigation.Family members said that on Friday evening while the girl was at home, she received a call on her mobile phone from a young man from the village. When her maternal uncle asked her about the call, she told him that a youth from the same village had been repeatedly calling and harassing her.The maternal uncle allegedly complained to the youth’s family members and asked them to counsel him. The family alleged that shortly after the complaint was made, the girl hanged herself inside the house.Family members said that when she did not come out of the room for a long time, they went inside and found her body hanging from a noose. They raised an alarm and nearby villagers gathered at the spot.On receiving information, Purwa Kotwali police reached the scene, had the body taken down from the noose and sent it for post-mortem examination. Police collected evidence from the scene and recorded statements of the deceased’s family members.The family accused the youth of causing mental harassment and demanded strict action. Police said the matter was being investigated thoroughly from every angle, and further legal action would be taken on the basis of the post-mortem report and the written complaint from the family members.
