Agra: Doctors at SN Medical College successfully treated a 23-year-old man who remained on ventilator support for nearly a month after suffering severe brain injuries in a road accident.Chandraprakash Rathore, a resident of Nagla Pati in Agra’s Dayalbagh area, was admitted to the emergency department on April 4. Hospital authorities said scans revealed that he was suffering from Diffuse Axonal Injury (DAI), one of the most severe forms of traumatic brain injury, which also triggered repeated seizures. Considering his condition, he was shifted to the Super Speciality ICU, where he remained in a coma for nearly 25 days and on ventilator support for 30 days.Doctors said the chances of recovery in such cases are usually very low. However, after intensive treatment, round-the-clock monitoring and coordinated efforts by the neurosurgery and ICU teams, the patient gradually recovered. After spending 35 days in intensive care, he was shifted to the general ward and discharged in stable condition on Monday.Principal Dr Prashant Gupta termed the recovery “extremely challenging yet inspiring”. “Recovery in prolonged coma cases involving Diffuse Axonal Injury is rare, but the expertise of doctors and advanced ICU facilities helped save a young life.” Calling it a testament to teamwork and dedication, Gupta congratulated the medical team and wished the patient a healthy future.
