Mysuru: The Mysuru division of the South Western Railway (SWR) on Tuesday observed International Level Crossing Awareness Day. The initiative aimed to create awareness among road users about safe practices at level crossings and prevent accidents caused by negligence and unsafe crossing habits.As part of the campaign, a special awareness programme was organised at Level Crossing Gate 4 between Mysuru and Ashokapuram railway stations. The programme was led by Mysuru Divisional Railway manager Mudit Mittal. Additional Divisional Railway manager Shammas Hameed and other senior officials of the division were also present.The officials inspected the level crossing and interacted with road users to spread awareness about the importance of adhering to safety rules while crossing railway tracks. Addressing the gathering, the DRM emphasised that safety at level crossings is a shared responsibility. He urged road users to exercise caution and strictly follow safety regulations while approaching and crossing railway tracks.He highlighted that people should always stop, look and listen before crossing; never attempt to cross when the gate is closed or warning signals are active; avoid rushing; refrain from using mobile phones or other distractions; follow the instructions of gatekeepers and railway staff; and use only authorised level crossings instead of trespassing on railway tracks.The awareness campaign also featured the distribution of safety pamphlets, interactive sessions with road users, and live demonstrations on safe crossing practices, a release said. A street play performed by the Scouts and Guides team of SWR conveyed key safety messages and encouraged responsible behaviour among the public.
