Comedian Kunal Kamra is one of the oldest artists in his field. One who is not shy of controversies and has had his own fair share of them. Kamra himself has made numerous scandalous comments in his career, including some on women’s rights. But this time, he has taken a stand for them, rather than against, it seems. Thus, the comedian recently took to X to take a dig at Pranit More’s apology, writing: “Things comedians should stop hiding behind…1. Storytelling.2. Crowd Work.3. Hard Work4. Bank Balance.5. Parents.”In another post, he claimed “Pranit More makes Harsh Gujral look like Barack Obama.”
What happened with Pranit More?
Well, if you have been that off the grid, then here’s what truly happened. During one of his live shows in Gurugram, comedian Pranit More was engaging with the crowd. There, a 23-year-old web developer Himanshu Jangra said he went on a date with a woman and paid ₹370 for a plate of chicken biryani she had. He went on to claim that since he paid for the meal, he deserved a “return” on his investment, in the form of physical intimacy. He added that he took the woman to a “dark park” and began kissing her, despite “not feeling it.”While the audience laughed at his anecdote, More went on to reward him with Rs 5,000 along with sharing the clip on his Instagram account. But what More may have posted as a PR move, turned around to raise major backlash for him and Jangra. Social media users attacked them both, the man for the lack of consent and the comedian for commending him, rather than condemning him.Soon, both men issued apologies online and deactivated their Instagram accounts. They are also facing a case registered by the Maharashtra Cyber Police. However, recently, More surfaced back on the internet to issue another apology, adding that he deserves the ‘hate’. “Hello, toh baat yeh hai ki main yeh baat kaafi time se karni thi, lekin mera Instagram suspend ho gaya tha. Aap sabne mera crowdwork dekha hoga, jiske wajah se mujhe kaafi hate mil rahi hai. Aur mujhe lagta hai ki main shayad is hate main deserve bhi karta hoon,” he said.“Kyunki jab main us ladke ke saath crowd work kar raha tha, usne kaafi derogatory baatein boli aur sab log bhi us par hans rahe the. Mujhe lagta hai ki ye meri sabse badi galti thi. Main chahta toh usey wahin rok sakta tha, lekin maine use ek platform diya jisse cheezein itni escalate ho gayi. Jinko bhi is wajah se hurt hua hai, un sab se main maafi maangna chahta hoon. Jo bhi legal proceedings mere khilaaf chal rahi hain, unmein main authorities ke saath cooperate bhi kar raha hoon. Main aapse bas yahi request karta hoon ki mujhe ek aur chance diya jaye. Main behtar insaan ban kar dikhaunga,” he added. While More faces social media’s ire, Jangra, who worked at Starvik Design was terminated, as per an Instagram post by the company’s founder Vivek Vishwakarma.
