Mumbai: An eight-year-old male leopard Surya housed at Sanjay Gandhi National Park expired on May 17, 2026, during the course of treatment for severe renal and hepatic compromise.A press release issued by SGNP authorities stated Surya had arrived at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in 2018 from the Ahilyanagar Forest Division as a two-month-old cub and was hand-reared at the facility. On May 14, 2026, subtle behavioural alterations were observed despite the absence of any obvious clinical signs. Subsequent blood investigations and diagnostic evaluations revealed severe chronic kidney compromise along with elevated liver parameters, said the press release.
