Chappell Roan has deleted her social media platforms from her phone until further notice. The singer recently opened up about why she is choosing to stay away from online platforms and how this move also comes from a place of privilege.
Chappell Roan on why she deleted her social media
While talking on the ‘Elton John Impact Awards’ podcast recently, Roam revealed that she has decided to delete all social media from her phone for the time being. As to why she made this move, the singer said, “I just delete it when it becomes too much and keep it moving.” She further quipped that dealing with the hate also becomes too much to handle sometimes for her, adding, “It’s very… disheartening sometimes to really go into the comment section.”The 28-year-old musician also added that “at the end of the day, no matter what anyone says about me online or in person, it’s not gonna stop people like Elton [John] and I [from] donating money, donating time, writing about things that matter to us.”
Chappell Roan on being privileged enough to delete her social media accounts
While talking about the matter, she cited that she is currently in a place where she can easily delete social media accounts and move away from that space of her own accord. However, many people have become dependent on it, and it’s hard to separate the artist from such platforms while also being a good person.“But that’s hard for a lot of artists because, if you really rely on social media to fuel your momentum, that can be really disheartening, and it can feel very hopeless. I’m in a very privileged position where I can be like, ‘I’m not gonna be on this, and I’ll be fine.’ But not everyone is like that,” she concluded.Over the years, she has talked about staying away from social media altogether. Last year, in another interview, she had talked about how she had left social media and had to remind herself not to read what was written online about her, as it would have made her far more upset.
