The Met Gala charity event is one of the most talked about events of the year. Set up around a theme every year, the event invites some of the biggest names in the entertainment and fashion world to walk the red carpet stairs and show off their best fits for the night. While the guest list is long, there are some names who will probably never appear there. Here is a list of some of the big names in the industry who have either been banned, or have simply expressed that the Met Gala may not be their thing.
Celebrities who have been banned from the Met Gala
US President Donald Trump has officially been banned from the Met Gala for all events. Donald Trump has not been photographed at the event since 2012, however, he did attend many of the dinners before that.Tim Gunn has admitted that he has been banned from the Gala altogether. While talking to the Fashion Police in an old interview, he revealed that “It is very true. It is a crazy story, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s a very matter-of-fact story.”Lili Reinhart, who recently appeared in ‘Forbidden Fruits’ also expressed that there are high chances that she will not be invited to the event ever again. The star was last photographed on the famed red carpet stairs in 2022. However, she has expressed that after making a comment about Kim Kardashian, there are chances that she may never get an invite again. Earlier on, she had criticized Kardashian for losing weight to fit in Marilyn Monroe’s dress. While talking to W Magazine, she cited that “I don’t think I’ll be invited back…I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress.”Nicki Minaj is another celebrity on the list who may have possibly been banned from attending the Met Gala. Earlier this year, Naughty but Nice’ reported that she may not be included in the list because of some of the political comments that she has made in the past. A statement from the report read, “Nicki’s invitations didn’t just slow down, they vanished. Hollywood stopped returning her calls. This isn’t subtle anymore. She’s been shut out.”
Celebrities who do not wish to attend the Met Gala
Amy Schumer, famed comedian and actress is someone who does not wish to attend the Met Gala altogether. While talking to Howard Stern in 2016, she revealed that the glamped up event was just not her thing. At the time she had added that, “It’s people doing an impression of having a conversation. I don’t like the farce…We’re dressed up like a bunch of fucking assholes. I don’t like it. I have no interest in fashion…I don’t care.”Popular fashion designer Rachel Zoe has also shared that she has been banned from attending the Met Gala. While talking to The New York Times, she commented that “Anna Wintour is one of my heroes, but they say that I’m more influential. As great as it is, Vogue won’t change a designer’s business. But if an unknown brand is worn by a certain person in a tabloid, it will be the biggest designer within a week.” It has been alleged that she was banned because of making this comment, however, she was present at the Met Gala in 2012, while the comment was made in 2007.‘Marty Supreme’ actress Gwyneth Paltrow is another addition to the list who has expressed her disdain over the Met Gala and how possibly will not be attending the event as much. In 2013, while in conversation with US Weekly, she expressed that while on most occasions the event seems like the perfect thing, however, that is not always the case. She added, “You get there and it’s so hot, and it’s so crowded and everyone’s pushing you. I think we’re all a bit old to dress up punk.”Zayn Malik is also someone who would rather stay away from the Met Gala altogether. He last appeared at the event in 2016 with Gigi Hadid. The two had walked the red carpet stairs together at the time; however, it was also the last time for the singer. While talking to GQ in an old interview, he confirmed that he would not like to go back to the event at all, adding that “I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet.”The Met Gala will be held on Monday, May 4; however, the event will start at 3:30 AM on May 5 in India because of the time differences.
