AGRA: A 19-year-old girl narrowly escaped death after bravely fending off a crocodile attack on the banks of the Kali river in Aligarh district on Thursday. Armed with sickles, she and her sister-in-law fought the reptile until it retreated back into the water.The incident occurred near Raipur Mustaf village under Atrauli police station.Suman, daughter of farmer Kumarpal from Mohiuddinpur in Bulandshahr, was cutting grass by the river with her sister-in-law, Dropa Devi, 40, when the crocodile suddenly lunged, clamping its jaws on Suman’s left hand.As it dragged her toward the river, Devi rushed to strike the reptile with a sickle.Despite injuries, Suman also resisted, and they forced the crocodile to release its grip.Her parents, working nearby, rushed her to the Atrauli community health centre, from where she was referred to Aligarh district hospital.Doctors said Suman sustained deep wounds and severe damage to three fingers, requiring surgery.
