She has done films across industries, but Mrunal Thakur who hails from Maharashtra’s Dhule is very grounded in her roots. Seen in films like Super 30, Batla House and Sita Ramam, she cherishes celebrating festivals with family and loved ones. Today, on Akshaya Tritiya, she talks to Bombay Times about what this day means to her.Mrunal says, “I’ve always loved the idea behind Akshaya Tritiya — that anything you begin comes from a place of positivity and abundance.” For her, the day isn’t just about ritual; it’s about mindset. This year, that mindset turns inward. I think my intention is to invest more in myself — not just professionally, but emotionally and mentally too. Slowing down, being more present and choosing things that truly bring me joy.”Akshaya Tritiya is also a day when people start new ventures, purchase gold and jewellery, and make new investments. Mrunal gently reframes the idea of investment. She says, “For me, meaningful investments go beyond just material things. Of course, buying something special is always nice, but I think I’m focusing more on experiences this year. Spending time with loved ones, maybe starting something I’ve been putting off for a while, that feels like a richer investment to me.”Her memories of the festival, too, are rooted in something deeper than grandeur. They take her back to the warmth of home and family. “It was always about family. I remember the excitement at home, the little rituals and that feeling that it’s an auspicious day where everything feels a bit more hopeful. Even if it was something small, like buying a tiny piece of gold or just offering prayers together — it was the togetherness that made it special,” she says.On the work front, Mrunal is doing Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, a romantic comedy, with Varun Dhawan and Pooja Hegde. Talking about the film and the genre, Mrunal says, “With a veteran director like David Dhawan being the captain of our ship and having talented co-stars makes the shoot fun, which reflects on screen for the audiences to see. My all-time favourite rom-com would probably be Jab We Met, it’s just iconic! And I think Kareena Kapoor Khan absolutely nails comedy.”
