Shilpa Shinde‘s admission about making a false sexual harassment allegations against the producer of Bhabi Ji Ghar Par Hai, has left the entire industry in shock. Celebrities like Pooja Bedi and Karan Oberoi have strongly reacted to the controversy. While Pooja Bedi strongly criticised Shilpa, stating that false allegations can make it more difficult for genuine survivors to be believed, Karan Oberoi called for a detailed investigation into such matters.Speaking to Variety India, Pooja said, “Any woman who weaponizes laws meant to protect victims, be it for revenge, personal gain, leverage, publicity, or malice, is betraying the very cause those laws were created to serve.”She added, “False accusations not only destroy innocent lives but also make it harder for genuine survivors to be believed. Such misuse of the law is unacceptable and must carry serious consequences. As someone who has spent decades advocating for women’s rights, I believe that any woman who misuses laws designed to protect victims of sexual harassment or abuse who face real trauma, distress, and exploitation, are doing a great disservice to the movement. When false allegations are made, they not only harm innocent individuals but also undermine the credibility of women who come forward with legitimate complaints. Justice must protect the innocent as fiercely as it supports the vulnerable.”Karan Oberoi has also reacted to the controversy and told Variety India, “Any accusation has to be thoroughly investigated to get to the bottom of the issue before any name calling can happen in print media to destroy hard earned reputations and lives. The report may be a step in the right direction but will be lost in rhetoric if transparent and meticulous investigation isn’t done. A false case is more anti-women than anti-men! Because genuine victims suffer on account of it. One false case has the propensity to cast aspersions on a hundred genuine cases.”For the uninitiated, recently during Bharti Singh and Haarsh Limbachiyaa’s podcast, Shilpa made a shocking revelation about filing a false sexual harassment case against the producer of Bhabi Ji. She said, “At that time, I filed a sexual harassment complaint against my producer because I felt I had no other option left. Looking back, I still feel it was a huge step. All doors were closed on me. I believed there was no other way to get out of the situation. When you go to file an FIR, the police ask you to provide specific details and allegations. Coming from a law background, I was aware of the process. Today, I want to say that the allegations I made were not true. I am admitting this for the first time. The matter was eventually settled, and after the settlement, I received my pending payment a few months later.”
