Dhurandhar actor Sanjay Mehandiratta, who was recently in Chennai, is still basking in the mega success the film enjoyed. “You never know how the public is going to respond to a film. We had a sense that Dhurandhar would be well-made. But it has got too huge. It’s historical and crazy!” states the actor, who played the president of Pakistan in the Aditya Dhar film.Like many fans, he remains optimistic about the possibility of a third instalment to the franchise. “The way Dhurandhar 2 ends, there is a scope for a third part. It can be easily conceived. I hope they make it. But there is no official word about it, even within the team or anywhere else.”
Turning his focus to the Tamil film industry, Sanjay says he has plans to act here. “Talks are on, and hopefully it’s a meaty role,” he says.Naturally, he is keen on working with the industry’s legends, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. “Who doesn’t know Thalaivar and Kamal Haasan sir? We hear about how Thalaivar plays the role of a robot or a young guy crazily well. It’s inspirational to watch him as an actor. Kamal sir is a maverick. He can do so many things,” he shares, adding, “We are talking about pan-India now, but films from Chennai were already crossing borders. So many big stars and impactful social films have come out of this land.”The actor is currently working on a Telugu film by Kranthi Madhav and had previously acted in the Malayalam ilm Kannur Squad , with Mammootty. On his experience sharing screen space with the veteran, he says, “Mammootty sir is a legend. He’s a learned man and very welcoming.”Up next, the actor has Madhur Bhandarkar’s Wives in the pipeline. “I just shot for it. I’m playing a rich businessman from Mumbai. The film is the behind-the-scenes story of the wives of superstars, how they go about their lives, their insecurities and how some of them become entrepreneurs in their own right.”
